What Service Will You Attend?
BCP Holy Communion
A celebration of The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist using the traditional words of The Book of Common Prayer first published in 1662. This is a service without any music or singing but does contain Bible Readings, Sermon or talk and prayers.
It lasts about 40 minutes.
Parish of the Resurrection Altogether Service
A service for all the congregations and people of the parish usually held in our largest church building – St Lawrence Church. It is usually an informal style communion service but some months it may focus on a different style or theme of worship.
This service uses a range of music styles for all ages and more simple service liturgy. Often it will contain a talk, interviews, discussions and video clips. It begins with ‘bacon butties’ and other refreshments from 10am.
The service lasts 60-70 minutes.
Parish Communion (St Lawrence)
A service using the structure of Common Worship using familiar liturgy and a combination of traditional and contemporary hymns and songs.
The choir leads the music with both organ and piano used to accompany the singing. It uses a sung liturgy including items such as a Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and choir anthems. Prayers, sermon or talk, Bible Readings are all included.
It lasts about 75 minutes.
Parish Communion (other churches)
A service using the structure of Common Worship using familiar liturgy and a combination of traditional and contemporary hymns and songs.
An organ or piano leads the music. Prayers, sermon or talk, Bible Readings are all included.
It lasts 60-70 minutes.
Morning Worship
A non-communion service containing simple liturgy which includes Bible Readings, a sermon/talk, prayers and often contains interviews, discussions and video clips.
Music tends to be more contemporary led by a music group and/or the organ.
The service lasts about 60 minutes.
Afternoon Worship (All Saints Church)
A simple service which on some occasions includes communion and offers a variety of reflective and engaging prayers, songs/hymns and Bible Readings.
Often this service will involve interaction, discussion and tea and cake beforehand.
The service last about 50-60 minutes.
LeGo Church at Holy Rood Church
An all age family service with craft, building blocks, worship, singing and food.
Each month, a dfifferent Bible story will be told and built using building blocks. After the service everyone joins together for food and drinks.
The service last about 50-60 minutes.
Everyone is welcome
Informal Evening Worship
An informal service led by a group of people who plan it together. The music is led by a small band and we sing a variety of contemporary worship songs.
It contains teaching, open prayer, ‘Talking Jesus’ discussion and times of sharing.
It lasts about 60 minutes.
Choral Evensong
A service from the Book of Common Prayer for the evening. This service is led by the choir who sing a psalm, Magnificat, Nunc Dimittis and an anthem.
There are traditional hymns accompanied by the organ. There are also two Bible Readings, a short sermon and prayers of intercession.
It typically lasts about 50-60 minutes and we end with ‘drinks and nibbles’.
Wednesday Communion (All Saints Church)
A celebration of The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist using the familiar words Common Worship. This is a service without any music or singing but does contain Bible Readings, Sermon or talk and prayers.
It lasts between 30 and 40 minutes.
On the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month the service is followed by ‘Coffee and Conversation’.
